In collaboration with RAC WAEdith Cowan University (ECU) and the City of Bunbury, we are seeking people full of ideas and passion, who care about the community they live in.

Together with industry experts and like-minded people, help us come up with ideas and solutions to the issue of driver distraction caused by mobile phones in regional WA.

Plus, there’s a prize pool worth $3,500 up for grabs. To find out more information and register your interest, visit www.rac.com.au/hackathon

What it’s all about:

In 2017 more than half of all road fatalities occurred on regional roads, despite less than 20 percent of the state’s population residing in regional communities.

The challenge brings people together with a range of different perspectives, skills and experiences to come up with creative ideas and solutions to the issue of road safety in regional Western Australia.

This year we are focusing on the impact of driver distraction caused by mobile phones.

We’re looking for curious people with big ideas! We think the best ideas come from those who are the most curious about the world!

Maybe you’re an artist, a tradesman, a developer or recently retired. We’re simply seeking people full of questions and passion, who care about the community they live in.

What you’ll be doing:

You will be working alongside industry experts, whose talents are bringing brain power together to solve big problems.

They will guide you through the challenge and equip you with the best resources and approaches to get you going. You’ll be working in a group of like-minded people towards a common goal.

When and where:

The Bunbury edition of RAC’s Road Safety Challenge will be hosted in the heart of town at ECU’s CBD Learning Hub downstairs at Maker+Co.

The event kicks off in the evening on Friday 12th October. After tackling the problem, teams will present their ideas for solutions to a panel of industry mentors and experts after an action-packed day of collaboration and co-creation on Saturday 13th October 2018.

The panel will then award prizes for first, second and third place:

1st place: $2,000

2nd place: $1,000

3rd place: $500 towards a stay at RAC Parks and Resorts
